Unfortunately I will not make my habitual pilgrimage to Quartzsite and Tucson this year, but a desert tortoise informs me that a great energy fills the air as frenzied crowds visit booth after mineralized booth. I must admit I will miss what the late Larry Bruce called “miles and miles of eye candy.” To a much lesser extent I will even miss the traffic jams and those odorific outhouses... but miss them I will.
The goings on in Quartzsite and Tucson, Arizona, are absolutely the best rockhound experience ever, bar none (Searles Lake/Trona Gem-O-Rama is third). Neither experience is easy to describe. The two locations will be the temporary home for literally thousands of dealers, from all points of the globe, showing off their mineral wares. These two southwest locations are nothing short of spectacular, and are certainly a wonderful December, January, February, and March destinations. Over the years I have tried to capture the wonderment of it all for you, but in the end there are truly too many things going on, in too many places at the same time, to capture it all. I suggest you check out all of the cracks and crannies for yourself—as rockhounds you know where the goodies are!
By the way, while in the area I highly suggest you visit:

Wiley's Well
Opal Hill Fire Agate Mine
 Kinney's Rock Shop

Gold Rock Ranch
